Jamf Patch Management Presentation

Breaking Down a Technical Solution, Step by Step

Before I was a marketer, I was a product manager. This involved communicating with both engineers and customers about very technical topics.

In this talk, I walked 800+ Apple IT admins through Jamf’s new patch management solution (which I led from customer research to engineering delivery) using plain language, clear visuals, and real-world examples tailored to their workflows.

Leading with Empathy

I opened by acknowledging the pain everyone was feeling (long hours, repetitive patching work, and no standardized process) in a customer base that was already notoriously frustrated by Jamf’s lack of a real solution. Starting with empathy was key to getting a skeptical audience to lean in.

Emphasizing the Value

Before showing the new approach, I explained why patch management matters in terms that resonated with both IT admins and their leadership—from security risks to productivity loss. Framing the value early helped position our solution as essential, not just “nice to have.”

Introducing the Solution

Even an automated patch workflow involves multiple moving parts, so I started with a 30,000-foot view. I summarized the entire end-to-end solution before diving into any one step. I also outlined our iterative approach, giving these IT admins a clear picture of what was already live, what was coming next, and how it all fit together. This built confidence in a solution that was still in progress.

Live Demo

After the big-picture walkthrough, I dove into each part of the workflow in a live demo. I explained how to configure and use the new tools, shared admin tips from our pilot group, and connected each step back to the real-world value it would deliver.

Note: You’ll spot some funky UI in this demo; it’s pre-beta software, shown live before the final polish.

Handling the Technical Q&A

I closed with a live Q&A, fielding unscripted technical questions from an audience of seasoned Apple IT admins. Using both my understanding of their day-to-day challenges and my inner knowledge of the product, I was able to respond with clarity and detail, further building trust in the solution and in Jamf.
